Blog Tips--Multimedia

A fantastic way to make your blog posts more interesting and informative is to include multimedia in your blog posts. The Internet is a dynamic medium and you should take full advantage of all the things out there.

The most basic multimedia tool is, of course, images. Posting photos and images onto the SLICE blog is extremely easy. First, click on the "Add Image" button on the post toolbar (to the right of the spell check button). If you are uploading an image that is saved to your computer, use the option labeled "Add an image from your computer," to the left of the window; if you are using an image that you found online, use the option labeled "Or add an image from the web," to the right of the window. For images from your computer, browse for the image on your computer and then upload it. For images from the web, paste the URL into the text box. After you have uploaded the image, choose the layout you would like for your image; you can choose to have your image float left, float center, or float right. Then, choose your image size, make sure that the box labeled "Use this layout every time" is unchecked, check the terms of service box, and click "Upload Image." This will add an image to your post.

You can also post videos to you post. To upload a video from your computer, use the "Add Video" button (to the right of the image button). Browse for the video you want on your computer, title the video, check the terms of service box, and, finally, click "Upload Video." To use a video that is already posted on the web, you can just embed the video in your blog post. Most video sites offer a link that says "Embed." Copy and paste this link into your post and the video will post onto your blog.

Another option you have to make your blog posts more interesting is creating slide shows with your photos. By using free online slide show generators, such as Rock You!, you can post multiple pictures to the blog and keep your post interactive. These generators also allow you to be creative with your picture posts by allowing you to choose your transition methods and to choose music to go with your slide show. To create a slide show, all you have to do is upload your images, make the necessary decisions as far as transitions and such go, and then post the resulting embed URL to the blog. The online slide show generators are usually pretty user-friendly, but if you have additional questions, you can contact Amanda.

This is just a basic idea of what, beyond just words, you can post on the blog; there is a world of multimedia options out there that you can use to better illustrate your ideas or to better inform your readers. If you would like other ideas or more information about the ideas presented here, contact Amanda.
